Music plays a large part in my writing. I always have an internal soundtrack going in my head and that was certainly the case for A Way with Words. Tony hums to a Bon Jovi classic playing at his job site and music greets him when he pushes the door open to the bar where Remy works. And of course, Tony meets Remy when he plays guitar in the park. The background is buzzing with everything from flamenco to classic rock and roll. Here’s a short playlist to give you an idea. Enjoy!

Happy Reading & Listening,

Lane Hayes xo

Bon Jovi “Living On a Prayer”

Bruce Springsteen “Born in the USA”

The Rolling Stones “Beast of Burden”

Paco de Lucia

Lane Hayes is grateful to finally be doing what she loves best. Writing full-time! It’s no secret Lane loves a good romance novel. An avid reader from an early age, she has always been drawn to well-told love story with beautifully written characters. These days she prefers the leading roles to both be men. Lane discovered the M/M genre a few years ago and was instantly hooked. Her debut novel was a 2013 Rainbow Award finalist and subsequent books have received Honorable Mentions, and were winners in the 2016 Rainbow Awards. She loves red wine, chocolate and travel (in no particular order). Lane lives in Southern California with her amazing husband in an almost empty nest.

Uncommon Ground is unlike anything I’ve written before. I’ve written science fiction, aliens, and contemporary romance separately. This was my first attempt to put all those elements in the same story. Why? Because I love both genres, read both genres, and wanted this story to reflect that. I wanted people who don’t normally read science fiction to give it a try, and I wanted my science fiction readers to fall in love with Dillon and Lang.

The setting for Uncommon Ground was a bonus. I was excited to write in Felice Stevens’ New York. I love her characters and stories. My plot is fairly peripheral to hers, with her characters only appearing here and there. The reason for that is, well, my guys are aliens. (Some of them. Okay, most of them.) I didn’t want to infect her world too much. But now that I’ve done it once, I can’t wait to do it again, and I will be using one of her characters in a pivotal role in a follow up story. I haven’t picked my victim yet…

Writing this story was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to continue Dillon and Lang’s adventure, and expand the world I’ve started building inside Felice Stevens’ world.

Bio and links:
If aliens ever do land on Earth, Kelly will not be prepared, despite having read over a hundred stories of the apocalypse. Still, she will pack her precious books into a box and carry them with her as she strives to survive. It’s what bibliophiles do.

Kelly is the author of a number of novels, novellas and short stories, including the Chaos Station series, co-written with Jenn Burke. A lot of what she writes is speculative in nature, but sometimes it’s just about a guy losing his socks and/or burning dinner. Because life isn’t all conquering aliens and mountain peaks. Sometimes finding a happy ever after is all the adventure we need.

"I hadn't decided to write a story for the launch of the Kindle world but i got caught up in the excitement of the other authors' stories. I'd asked my reader group who they'd most like to read a  new story about and the consensus was Nick and Julian. I love second chance stories and those two always held a special place in my heart.

A few of us were at RT this year in Atlanta, sitting at the bar (as usual) when an idea popped into my head. We always read books about the couples coming together, but what happens after the happy ending? And I knew there was lots more to Nick and Julian's story. A title came to me-Controlled Burn-which I didn't end up using, but the premise of the story, Nick and Julian struggling through that first year with themselves and each other, was all there. I didn't want it to be too angsty, and wanted to show a little bit of fun in the bedroom.

Just a note. I started writing notes on my phone and Lane Hayes, who was sitting next to me when the idea hit, knew exactly what was happening.
"Got a storyline?" she said to me.
"Yep."
I got typing away as we finished our margaritas."
