Mystery and Thriller

Good Morning. How was your weekend? Hope you all had enough to read! Well, I feel myself coming down with a cold, and it sucks. But, I'm sure a cup of tea, and a good book will fix that right up! So, here's some Mystery and Thrillers for today!
Secrets to Die For (The Detective Jackson Mystery/Thriller Series)
NORMALLY, I wouldn't include a book without a synopsis. I hate posting books for you that only show reviews where the description should be. But, this book has a lot of good reviews, so who knows, you may like it.

Black Jasmine (Lei Crime Series)
The island of Maui is turquoise ocean, stunning vistas, and whalesong—but organized crime has a hidden hold, and Detective Lei Texeira tracks evil that hides behind a beautiful face.

Lei and Stevens find a haven on Maui—until their new life as a couple is interrupted by murder. When a nameless teenage girl dies in an apparent vehicular suicide, Lei can’t rest until she finds out what really happened. She blazes through all the wealth and poverty of island society in her quest for justice, rousing a deadly foe—even as she faces the personal demons of commitment and revenge that threaten the only real love she’s ever known.

She's Not There
Women are missing . . .

Is the rising number of abused women who've gone missing a statistical anomaly? Or is a serial killer targeting this vulnerable group of women?
When the Milwaukee Police Department refuses to investigate because no bodies have been discovered, Lisa Rayburn, the clinical psychologist who discovers the anomaly, is drawn into an investigation to discover the cause after one of her own clients goes missing. She finds herself forming an unlikely alliance with a former policewoman turned security consultant, TJ Peacock, and the husbands of two of the missing women who may themselves be murderers.
When TJ is attacked, and a woman looking remarkably like Lisa is found murdered, they know . . . someone is willing to kill to protect his secret.

Calculated Loss (Madeline Carter)
High finance and haute cuisine . . . a recipe for murder

It's been years since former stockbroker Madeline Carter bothered thinking about her gastronomically gifted ex-husband, Chef Braydon Gauthier. Between quitting her soul-sucking career and discovering what life is like during daylight hours she's been kind of busy. But when Madeline learns Braydon took his own life, she drops everything and hightails it to the funeral.

It doesn't take long to realize Braydon's death is more murder than suicide. Madeline knows her ex would never have prepared himself a poison-laced dinner of duck a l'orange -- let alone pair it with a big, beefy Shiraz! The culinary star would have eaten fast food first.

So who's responsible? Madeline definitely has her suspicions, but one thing's clear: in the pressure-cooker world of high cuisine and higher stakes, a reputation is worth killing for.

The One You Love (suspense mystery)
Emma Holden's nightmare has just begun. Her fiancé vanishes, leaving the battered and bloodied body of his brother in their London apartment. Someone is stalking her, watching her every move. And her family are hiding a horrifying secret; a secret that threatens all those she loves. In a desperate race against time, Emma must uncover the truth if she ever wants to see her fiancé alive again.

The One You Love is a fast-paced suspense mystery, full of twists and turns, following in the tradition of writers such as Nicci French and Sophie Hannah.

The Vivisectionist
The boys have the perfect summer planned. They'll camp out in the backyard for their last vacation before high school. There's only one problem — even though they're just a hundred feet from the safety of the house, they're being hunted by a serial killer.

Join Jack, Ben, and Stephen as they strap on their backpacks and go out looking for adventure. The woods behind Jack's house contain endless trails to explore, and the boys have weeks to investigate them all. Their neighborhood finally seems at peace again, now that the man who snatched the kid from down the street has been caught. But there's still danger in those woods, and the boys are about to stumble into it...

Defender: Intrepid 1
When an intelligence agent is brutally murdered and the president of a small African country is put in danger, Morgan is sent in on his first solo mission.

His cover is to evacuate a group of aid workers, with the help of the beautiful but distant Arena Halls, before the country is swept by civil war. But his true mission is much darker. A spy has gone rogue - and there's more at stake than the guy's career in the Secret Intelligence Service.

A heart-pounding, no-holds-barred chase from the dark heart of Africa to the crystalline waters of Sydney culminates in a fight to the death to stop a vicious renegade intelligence officer and uncover the shadowy conspiracy behind him.

Can Morgan stay alive long enough to save the girl, save himself and bring them all to justice?

Dangerous Cargo - A Spy Thriller
When the protagonist begins to search for the cause of his father's death, he starts a quest to find an old ship-wreck and gold hoard. But the real cargo is a seriously dangerous one.
He combines with the daughter of one of the ship’s survivors and they become entangled in a web of obstacles created by his father’s former relationships and connections with the British secret service. The couple have to contend with hitherto unknown family secrets of homosexuality, infidelity, rape and illegitimacy whilst establishing their own intimate relationship.
The British intelligence services and CIA are always in the background. Following and sometimes protecting the couple as the story unwinds and a terrorist plot is disclosed that will disrupt the American entente cordial with Europe if not stopped.
There are chases by sea and on land when the World’s media move in and cause panic amongst the population. How could a nuclear incident occur just off the south coast of England? The story weaves between the south coast of England, Washington, Hong Kong, and Palace of Westminster.

FLORIDA HEAT (Florida Heat Murder Mystery Series)
Florida heat is murder - and in FLORIDA HEAT the bodies are stacking up at an alarming rate. From the moment Probation Officer Jo Cazimer witnesses a murder her life is in jeopardy. Working with her best friend Detective Kate Snow they struggle to identify the killer. But in Florida the snakes slither, the gators are hungry and a serial killer is on the loose.

The Last Call (The Bill Travis Mysteries)
THE LAST CALL starts with a protagonist on the edge of an impending midlife crisis. Add a blond and an old friend with a fetish for high explosives, and you have the kickoff of a first rate crime novel. George Wier writes with wit, verve, and a gut-bucket
knowledge of Texas and those who people its quirky underside. This book does not disappoint.

DIRTY (Jackie Mercer)
DECEPTION
Jackie Mercer can’t abide deception. Hey, a woman who single-handedly built the Mercer Detective Agency from the ground up has a right to expect honesty in a relationship. Tell that to the creep who, only this morning, she thought might be Mr. Right. Wrong!

DANGER
Her day only gets worse from there. An ominous message arrives accompanied by the photo of a man she hasn’t seen in ten years: You were the last one to see him alive.

DESIRE
Jackie's own first rule is simple: never mix business with pleasure. Unfortunately the only applicant for the investigator position she badly needs filled is a hunky younger man. Derrick Dawson has pleasure written all over his rock-hard body and soon both her business and her world quickly spin way out of control. Time for chocolate and a shot of Old No. 7—not necessarily in that order.

DISASTER
She’s in real trouble when a second message, this one including a dead body, drops into the mix. Jackie does what any smart Texas woman would do: she kicks butt and takes names, while the mystery spiraling around her long lost lover and her attraction to Derrick Dawson plunge her into a tangled web of shocking secrets and deadly deceptions.

Jackie has her hands full and her heart on the line—time to play DIRTY.

The Santa Shop (The Samaritans Conspiracy - book 1)
Skip Ralstat is a man so steeped in grief and despair that life seems no longer possible. After the death of his wife and child, Skip blames himself. He has given up his friends, his job and now, devoid of all hope, he survives on the mean streets of Albany. He knows it can't go on, that life must end...but will it?

In "The Santa Shop" we get our first glimpse at the Samaritans Conspiracy, a secretive group of individuals who are seldom seen and never recognized.

Also, don't miss "Red Gloves" the second novel in this emotional, life-affirming series. With Maine teenage corpses stacking up and her life crumbling around her, Lead Detective Priscilla Harris seeks out a red-gloved stalker who is either a murderer or a saint.

Hope's Vengeance
Hope is a woman like no other. She is a pocket dynamo, a bundle of energy, drive and ambition. But underneath the surface Hope is hurting and as her self-esteem sinks ever lower she finally seeks some answers to the questions she cannot even begin to ask. As Hope's counsellor, Dawn is unprepared for the rollercoaster ride that Hope will take her on. For Hope is not a force to be taken on lightly and it will take all of Dawn's professionalism and skill to guide Hope through to recovery and understanding. As Dawn increasingly suspects that there have been dark times in Hope's past that not even she can recall, the relationship between client and counsellor becomes more strained and dangerous. For the more Hope recalls and understands the more dangerous she becomes, not only towards those who wronged her, but to the people she loves and to herself.

The Surgeon's Blade (Suspense & Psychological Thriller)
Nursing sister, Libby Hunter wakes up in hospital with amnesia after a traumatic sailing accident. The stranger she finds sitting by her bedside claims to be her fiancé. As she cannot remember ever being engaged, she finds excuses to put him off until she is completely sure of her true feelings.

Returning home, Libby finds herself in great danger when her house is broken into. Who is the intruder and what does he want? Is this connected in any way to a series of attacks on nurses in London and Southampton? Will Libby be the latest targeted victim?

Distressed Libby turns to helicopter pilot, Robert for help and understanding, but is he as respectable and kind as he appears to be? Is her so-called fiancé, Nigel trustworthy?

The night time intrusion into Libby's house sets in motion a downwards spiral of cataclysmic and terrifying events, culminating in our favourite sleuth, Diana Rivers stepping in to help solve the case in this chilling mystery.

25 To Life #1
In a matter of weeks, three African-American police officers have been publicly and brutally murdered in the state of Virginia. The pressure is on law enforcement officials to stop the viscously calculated killer(s), and to do it quickly. An elite, yet experimental F.B.I. unit, formed specifically to investigate high profile crimes, is called in to head the investigation. Under the leadership of Special Agent Gabriel Santana, this F.B.I. team matches its investigators with hardened criminals who are currently incarcerated for having committed crimes similar in nature to the case they are trying to solve. In this particular instance, it means working with a racist-militia leader serving a life sentence, a man that would rather help the murderer(s) than see the killing-spree stop. 25 TO LIFE is like an edgy version of 48 HOURS and reminiscent of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS; a gripping crime drama brought to you by the writing team of Eriq LaSalle and Doug Wagner, and brilliantly illustrated by Tony Shasteen. 25 TO LIFE --- Sometimes enforcing the law is CRIMINAL

The Pain Nurse: A Cincinnati Casebook (Cincinnati Casebooks)
Cheryl Beth Wilson is an elite nurse at Cincinnati Memorial Hospital who finds a doctor brutally murdered in a secluded office. Wilson had been having an affair with the doctor’s husband, a surgeon, and this makes her a “person of interest” to the police, if not an outright suspect. But it’s not the cops who are following and watching Cheryl Beth.

Then another killing comes as former homicide detective Will Borders is just hours out of surgery. But as his stretcher is wheeled past the crime scene, he knows this is no random act of violence. Instead, it has all the marks of a serial killer case he supposedly solved years earlier. Rebuked by his former partner and unable even to walk, Borders starts to investigate. He teams up with Cheryl Beth, who is desperate to clear her name. But as the city teeters on the edge of violence and a killer grows closer, the two are running out of time to unlock the secrets of the murder and the brooding, old hospital.

Extramarital
Twenty-eight year old, Mimi Royce is determined to pursue her dream of becoming a full-time journalist. She's given up her career in business and taken an internship at an upscale lifestyle magazine. She befriends, Ann who openly and satisfyingly discusses an ongoing extramarital affair. Mimi is convinced the story is perfect for the magazine when Ann disappears. Mimi is drawn into Ann's disappearance leading her into something much darker and profoundly dangerous than she could have possibly imagined.

AT RISK ((Steve Cline Mysteries))
This stirring first mystery is set in Maryland’s rich horse country where Steve Cline seems, at twenty-one, much too young to be in charge of a major stable. Seasoned by summers on a dude ranch, his skills and stamina are sorely tested when he’s hijacked early one morning along with some of the stable’s horses. His escape turns him into a killer’s target in an environment where a complex scheme develops and everyone, no matter how innocent, courts risks . . .

The Commission: A Sam Kincaid Mystery (Sam Kincaid Series)
Levi Vogue, Chairman of the powerful Utah Board of Pardons and Parole, is gunned down in the driveway of his home as he returns from a late evening tryst with an exotic dancer employed in a Salt Lake City strip club.
Sam Kincaid, Chief of the Special Investigations Branch (SIB) of the Utah Department of Corrections, is assigned to help Salt Lake City Police Department homicide detective Lt. Kate McConnell solve Vogue’s murder.
The investigation soon leads Kincaid and McConnell into the city’s seedy underbelly. Ultimately, the investigation focuses on Charles (Slick) Watts, a violent ex-convict with a long criminal history and a score to settle with Levi Vogue.

But before Watts can be apprehended, his body is discovered at an abandoned military base in Wendover, Nevada.

Kincaid and McConnell soon expand their theory of the case and are led inside the Utah state prison....

Dark That Day, After All (Black Light of Day)

On this day, as they peer into the heavens together, elderly Jarvis Schloss unburdens his soul to another park dweller as they sit on his favorite park bench. In the tradition of Rod Serling, this eerie tale begins as the two each reflect on the primes of their lives and uncover something even darker than the sky overhead.
