Book Description:
The Brotherhood of the Guardians has existed for thousands of years to serve a single purpose: the protection of Talents, the mortal descendants of the original nine Muses.
Twenty-one year-old Daniel Lyoncourt has trained his entire life to join the Guardians. Daniel is prepared to risk his life in order to keep his Talent safe, but when he's assigned to nineteen year-old Anna Saint-James, he discovers that his life isn't the only thing he could lose. Anna has no idea how special she is and knows nothing about her abilities. He must teach her to control her gifts, keep her safe, and hope that he can find a place in her life as something more than just her bodyguard.
All power comes at a price. Like all Talents, Anna must one day make a choice: lose all of her powers, or ascend to a higher plane, leaving behind everyone she loves.

Author Bio:
Erin McFadden lives in Indiana with her husband, daughter, and their various pets. When not writing, she enjoys reading, doing craft projects, and spending time with family. Erin works in law enforcement and has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and criminology from Ball State University.

“Oh God. No. Oh no.” I laid my head down on the plaid comforter, willing away the image burned into my brain. Wavy strawberry blonde hair and big green eyes would haunt my dreams tonight. It was a curse, being placed with a Talent who looked like that. I already knew that I would give up my life for this girl. I would protect her with everything I had. Maybe it was genetic, or maybe it was my training. I'd have to guard my heart from her at the same time. If I fell for her, I'd never recover. Any woman I met for the rest of my life, I'd compare to her. Whether I wanted it or not, she would be my most important relationship. I could only hope that she would end up being worthy of the sacrifices I would inevitably have to make.
Excerpt Two:
You see, the price of being a Talent is that one day they must make a choice; remain in the mortal world and lose the abilities that have defined their existence, or ascend to the Realm of Influence. I have no idea what happens then, it's never been shared with us. We are the ones left behind, because in the entire history of the Guardians, a Talent has never chosen to remain mortal.
Excerpt Three:
I kept telling myself to just turn and walk away. I needed to get away from this guy before something bad happened. How are you supposed to react when an incredibly good looking guy walks up to you and just starts talking to you like he knows all about you? Sure, he's obviously on the lam from some nearby psych ward, but at least he thinks I'm special!
Excerpt Four:
Daniel was still holding my hand, and as we stood in the quiet confines of the elevator, he gazed down at our clasped hands as if he was surprised to see that he still held mine in his. I moved to pull mine away, a little embarrassed that I'd let a total stranger hold my hand this long. It just felt…nice.
As he released his hold on mine, Daniel took a small step away and flexed his now empty hand.
“I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I—I, uh. I know this is going to sound kind of strange, but I've waited a long time to meet you,” he whispered. Now what girl doesn't want to hear that at least once in her life?
Excerpt Five:
I was barely holding myself together, barely keeping myself calm. The pages in front of me kept jumping around, but that seemed to be because my hands were shaking like I had just pounded six shots of espresso. I don't know if you've ever read surveillance reports about your own life. I'd guess that most people haven't, but it's a surreal experience.
Excerpt Six:
“Today we'll work on focus and control. I want you to be able to pick out a specific person to Influence and not affect the entire room and to be able to shut it off when you don't consciously need it. It's okay to just let it flow when you're in creative settings like this, where you want the entire project to flow well and for people to collaborate and feed off each other. We don't want people to start spontaneously performing show tune medleys every time you go to a Walmart, though.”
I almost snorted my orange juice through my nose, enjoying the visual of people in blue smocks belting out, “The Phantom of the Opera” too much.
