The Mystery of Wednesday

Morning Fans! I'm sorry I haven't spent as much time online lately. I've had some personal things going on, as well as trying to finish 3 books! So, anyways, today I'm feeling a little like some mysteries!!! So, enjoy!!

Mistaken Identities

Curtis "Lil' Dog" Walker is having the worst night of his life. After putting in a hard day's work for the city of Calhoun, Virginia, and fussing with his live-in, gold-digging girlfriend "Downtown" Shae Brown, he doesn't need to find himself face-down in an alley with Delmar and Dickie Coles, notorious Vine Street thugs, pointing guns at him.

“At least let me know why,” Curtis says.

“Don’t know,” Delmar says. “Maybe somebody think you mighta seen something they didn’t want you to see ...”

Curtis spits out some dirt and gravel. “This is what I saw all day! I swear!”

Delmar squats in front of Curtis. “I believe you, cuz, and it’s a shame a working man like yourself has to die cuz somebody white and rich scared you mighta seen somethin’. Life is a risk, right?”

Curtis stares at the ground. “I’m gonna die here, aren’t I?”

Delmar nods. “’Fraid so.”

MISTAKEN IDENTITIES is a multicultural crime comedy where the good can be bad, the bad can be badder, and the best can be the absolute worst.

Drawing on her years working the crime beat for a major Chicago newspaper, Emily begins asking questions about Alex’s death. Her inquiries take her from a tornado-ravaged community searching for a way to recover to a wealthy and powerful family with political aspirations and connections. As the dots begin to connect, it becomes evident that the same people who killed Alex are beginning to target her as well, forcing Emily to seek protection from some very unlikely sources.
As she draws closer to the truth, Emily must face the rage driving her toward vengeance, a rage that is just as dangerous to her soul as the threats against her life.

Smart-mouthed New Yorker Viola Parker might be one of the best show-jumper riders around, but her attitude just landed her out of work. Again. She can barely keep her horse in hay let alone support her whipped-cream-in-a-can addiction. Now, all that’s between her and a surprise trust fund is keeping a job for one full year by the time she’s 30. And a glowing letter of recommendation.

But it’s hard to keep a civil tongue when within minutes of arriving at her new post at a Missouri horse farm, Vi runs headlong into a bull, has to catch a runaway, and her horse kicks her kilt-clad boss, Robert Malcolm.

If Malcolm doesn’t make the farm a success within the year, his father will sell it to developers. The moment Vi and her long legs and keen gaze step into his bull’s path, he knows he’s in trouble. But someone else has their eye on the land, too, and they will do anything to kill his success.

It’s supposed to be a relaxing—boring!—year of riding “on the buckle.” Between the dead horse visiting Vi’s dreams and the dead bodies piling up, the question isn’t whether she can keep her mouth shut long enough to earn a reference, but whether she’ll live long enough to get it.

Marriage can be a real killer.
One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?
With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

The brilliant Lucas Davenport thriller from the number one New York Times bestselling author.

Lucas Davenport has seen many terrible murder scenes. This is one of the worst. In the Minnesota town of Wayzata, an entire family has been killed—husband, wife, two kids, dogs. On the wall, in blood: “Were coming.” No apostrophe.

There’s something about the scene that tugs at Lucas’s cop instincts—it looks an awful lot like the kind of scorched-earth retribution he’s seen from Mexican drug gangs. But this is a seriously upscale town, the husband ran a modest software company, the wife dabbled in local politics. None of it seems to fit.

Until it does…

WICKED above her hipbone, GIRL across her heart
Words are like a road map to reporter Camille Preaker’s troubled past. Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, Camille’s first assignment from the second-rate daily paper where she works brings her reluctantly back to her hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls.

NASTY on her kneecap, BABYDOLL on her leg
Since she left town eight years ago, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed again in her family’s Victorian mansion, Camille is haunted by the childhood tragedy she has spent her whole life trying to cut from her memory.

HARMFUL on her wrist, WHORE on her ankle
As Camille works to uncover the truth about these violent crimes, she finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Clues keep leading to dead ends, forcing Camille to unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past to get at the story. Dogged by her own demons, Camille will have to confront what happened to her years before if she wants to survive this homecoming.

With its taut, crafted writing, Sharp Objects is addictive, haunting, and unforgettable.
