Mystery and Crime Suspense

Morning Fans! Just a quick list here of Mystery and Suspense. Promise I'll make it up to you tomorrow!

The Hypnotic Assassin
For thousands of years Hypnotic Assassins have existed to help free the people. Around 4,500 years ago they were known as 'Assassins of the Light', 2,000 years ago this changed to 'Followers of the Light'. Hypnotic Assassins stood for freedom and peace until almost all being wiped out in 1938 when one assassin became hungry for power and domination and decided all the other assassins must die.
Since that time very few Hypnotic Assassins remain, yet they continue to help to free the people and correct injustice. Sam Carter is one such assassin. Sam lives a quiet life four hours from the great City of London in a small boxy flat. Being a Hypnotic Assassin this is all he needs.
Every day when Sam isn't on a mission he walks the one mile journey into his local town to sit at the same seat in the Marlborough Café for 90 minutes, reading minds and drinking tea, where one day he picks up a mission to assassinate Michael Rawlins, CEO of SiLo, a Nuclear Fusion research company who is planning on selling a nuclear weapon and advanced nuclear technology to someone in Europe.
This starts out to be a straight forward and simple mission. But Sam’s life end’s up on the line, with Sam needing to use all his hypnotic skills just to survive.

This story is a work of fiction; the hypnotic aspects are based on facts. The author has over 20 years’ experience with hypnosis. With the use of hypnosis, people have been helped to hallucinate, to enhance senses, to alter their perception of time, to increase learning and to do many of the other skills mentioned within this story.

Ratcatcher (John Purkiss Series)
$0.99 Nook Link

Purkiss's job is straightforward. Track down agents of the intelligence services who are taking kickbacks, committing crimes, or otherwise abusing their positions. And bring them to justice.
Straightforward doesn't mean easy...
After a renegade British former spymaster, Fallon, is sighted in the Baltic city of Tallinn on the eve of a historic summit meeting between the Russian and Estonian presidents, Purkiss is despatched to investigate, and uncovers a conspiracy that threatens to tear Europe, and the world, apart.

Now, in an atmosphere of treachery and sudden violence, as the countdown begins to a potentially catastrophic conflict between Russia and the West, Purkiss must keep his desire for revenge under control for the sake of the world's - and his own - survival.
Described in Amazon reviews as a "cracker of a spy thriller" with "superbly choreographed action scenes" that "leave you feeling almost dizzy", RATCATCHER is both an adrenaline-fuelled action adventure novel and a hardboiled mystery story which exposes the world of the spy, in which few motives and actions are purely black or white.

Absalom “Abbie” Kearney grew up an outsider in her own hometown. Even being the adopted daughter of a revered cop couldn’t keep Abbie’s troubled past from making her a misfit in the working-class Irish American enclave of South Buffalo. And now, despite a Harvard degree and a police detective’s badge, she still struggles to earn the respect and trust of those she’s sworn to protect. But all that may change, once the killing starts.

When Jimmy Ryan’s mangled corpse is found in a local church basement, this sadistic sacrilege sends a bone-deep chill through the winter-whipped city. It also seems to send a message—one that Abbie believes only the fiercely secretive citizens of the neighborhood known as “the County” understand. But in a town ruled by an old-world code of silence and secrecy, her search for answers is stonewalled at every turn, even by fellow cops. Only when Abbie finds a lead at the Gaelic Club, where war stories, gossip, and confidences flow as freely as the drink, do tongues begin to wag—with desperate warnings and dire threats. And when the killer’s mysterious calling card appears on her own doorstep, the hunt takes a shocking twist into her own family’s past. As the grisly murders and grim revelations multiply, Abbie wages a chilling battle of wits with a maniac who sees into her soul, and she swears to expose the County’s hidden history—one bloody body at a time.

Sycamore Row $6.99
John Grisham's A Time to Kill is one of the most popular novels of our time. Now we return to that famous courthouse in Clanton as Jake Brigance once again finds himself embroiled in a fiercely controversial trial-a trial that will expose old racial tensions and force Ford County to confront its tortured history.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier.

The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly? And what does it all have to do with a piece of land once known as Sycamore Row?

In Sycamore Row, John Grisham returns to the setting and the compelling characters that first established him as America's favorite storyteller. Here, in his most assured and thrilling novel yet, is a powerful testament to the fact that Grisham remains the master of the legal thriller, nearly twenty-five years after the publication of A Time to Kill.
